Create App Icon Sets for iOS and Android

iOS and Android do not consume ICO or ICNS containers; their app projects expect PNG images with alpha transparency at a list of specific pixel sizes. Producing those sets is squarely inside IconWorkshop's cross-platform promise: author once on Windows, deliver for every target.

Workflow

  1. Start from the largest, cleanest master you have - an SVG kept in Axialis IconVectors, a layered PSD, or a high-resolution PNG.
  2. Open the master in IconWorkshop and build the icon project at the largest size your platforms need.
  3. Export alpha-enabled PNG files at each size your iOS or Android project requires. Check the current Apple and Google documentation for the exact size lists, because they change between OS releases.
  4. Review the smallest exports at actual size; what reads on a 1024-pixel store tile can smear at launcher sizes.

Tips for mobile icon sets

  • Keep the silhouette bold: mobile launchers crop, mask, and shrink icons aggressively.
  • Watch platform masking - iOS rounds corners for you, and Android adaptive icons mask to many shapes, so keep critical detail away from the edges.
  • When a whole folder of marketing or launcher sizes is needed, use the batch export tools instead of saving each file by hand.

The same master can also feed the Windows ICO and macOS ICNS builds, which keeps every platform's icon visually in sync from one source.
